The Clinic

Kings Park Equine Clinic is situated in the tranquil village of Plaistow, PJ McMahon qualified in Dublin in 1971. He moved to England and worked with the late Richard Hartley from 1973 to 1976. Richard was a leading show jumping vet who pioneered the treatment and maintenance of competition horses.

What our customers say

  • Since moving to PJ McMahon last year I have nothing but great things to say about the practice. The interest, friendly service and one to one care given is second to none. I can always phone the vet direct to ask any questions if in doubt, even when the vet is in the yard looking at horses for other clients he always enquires after mine, which is really lovely.

  • PJ has been my vet for around 17 years. As a young vet he worked for Richard Hartley who at that time looked after my mother’s (Debbie Johnsey) top show jumpers. We have always had a good relationship with PJ, he is extremely hard working and always tries to his very best for the horses.

  • I first started using PJ McMahon's in 2007 and have always been impressed with the professionalism and service they have given me. PJ's experience is unrivalled and is so valuable in lameness examinations. I recently called them at 1:30am for a Suspected colic, Brian was there within 20 minutes and stayed until the colic had passed. Then followed up with phone calls throughout the next 24hr to check that it had not returned. This is just one example of the exceptional service they provide.

  • PJ McMahon and his practice have looked after our 30 livery and riding school horses for around 25 years and we have no hesitation in highly recommending them. PJ's vast experience and his excellent team of vets make the sometimes inevitable need for medical diagnosis/treatment less distressing. They are always calm and reassuring around the horses (and clients), combining the ability to be sympathetic with realistic assessments of the injury/condition. They have access to sophisticated equipment for both diagnosis and treatment and, in our experience, emergency calls have always been handled very efficiently.

  • I have used the P.J. McMahon veterinary practice for many years, first meeting PJ in the early 1990's, when we moved from London to Surrey. I thought at that time, and still think, that he has an amazing intuitive ability to look at a horse and identify the problem. Although his colleagues in the practice have changed over time, they have all been fine vets, trained by PJ to his own high standards. It is also a very friendly practice, everyone is kind and empathetic and willing to explain all procedures in great detail and answer endless anxious questions. I especially like the holistic approach, combining state of the art conventional treatment with suitable alternative medicine, when deemed necessary. Several of my ponies have had conventional medical treatment along with alternative treatment, which has created, in my opinion, unusually positive results. The ladies in the office are first class as well, just like PJ and his associate vets, making the practice one I can recommend unreservedly to the most discerning potential client!
