P J McMahon Vets Treat Horse Teeth
Brian Sherry and Horse

Dentistry

With his background in equine dentistry PJ insists on high standards when it comes to dentistry, he considers the rasping of teeth to be an integral part of the welfare of the horse. Each vet carries a dental kit which includes hand and electrical rasps. An oral examination is carried out using a haussman gag and bit seating is carried out to suit the type of horse and bit being used.

Equine Dentistry

Wolf tooth removal is part of our normal dentistry service. Polo teeth are a speciality of the practice with hundreds of sets of teeth being done pre-season each year. Over the past years there has been an increase in the amount of dental technicians attending stables. We would respectfully point out that some procedures cannot be carried out by a dental technician and some which can require the procedure to be carried out under direct and continuous veterinary supervision (see the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians website).
